Div 2 Cup Round 2: Consistency Beginning to Shape the Competition

Div 2 Cup Round Two: Consistency Beginning to Shape the Competition

Round Two of the Sydney Women’s Rugby Div 2 Cup provided a clearer picture of how the competition may begin to develop across the season.

Several teams continued to build momentum with consecutive wins, while others showed enough competitiveness to suggest the ladder remains far from settled. Across five matches, the round produced a mixture of close contests, disciplined team performances, and several strong attacking displays that highlighted the growing depth within the competition.

Norths Sirens and Gordon 2 Share the Points in Tight Opening Match

The opening match of the round at Beauchamp Park ended in a 12–12 draw between Norths Sirens and Gordon 2, with neither side able to separate itself over the course of the contest.

Norths Sirens received tries from Sarah Gleeson and Anna Besgrove, while Fran Buffa added the conversion. Gordon 2 responded through Susannah Coady and Georgia Wansey, with Charlise Cannon converting to level the scores.

The match remained evenly balanced throughout, with both teams defending well in the closing stages. The result leaves both sides with a competition point and reflects the competitiveness expected throughout the middle portion of the ladder this season.

West Harbour Produce Clinical Display Against Chifley Chiefs

West Harbour recorded one of the strongest performances of the round with a 53–12 victory over Chifley Chiefs at Peter Van Hasselt Park.

Fullback Ava Moran led the attack with four tries, while Capucine Piat added three and Amelia Steventon contributed two tries alongside three conversions. West Harbour’s ability to move the ball efficiently through the backline consistently created opportunities out wide and allowed them to maintain pressure throughout the match.

Chifley Chiefs continued to compete despite the scoreline, with Cheyanne Ford contributing a try and conversion and Monica Fasavalu-Faamausili also crossing. However, West Harbour’s attacking execution ultimately proved too consistent across the full eighty minutes.

Campbelltown Continue Strong Start with Home Victory

Campbelltown maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a 19–10 win over Wildfires 2 at Campbelltown Showground.

Melissa Fatu opened the scoring early before Georgia Lotawa and Sarina Tuuga-Stevenson added further tries after entering from the bench. Mona Taleo and Hope Schuster each converted once as Campbelltown controlled large periods of possession through their forward play.

Wildfires 2 remained competitive through tries to Dior Odavis and Julia McEwen, though missed conversions prevented them from applying greater scoreboard pressure late in the match.

The result moves Campbelltown to two wins from two matches and keeps them among the leading group after Round Two.

Manly 2 Continue Early Form with High-Scoring Win Over Easts 2

Manly 2 continued their strong opening to the season with a 60–14 victory against Easts 2 at Manly Oval.

Eden Melham scored four tries, while Milan Cahill added three in a performance that highlighted the side’s attacking depth and pace out wide. Scarlett Mitchell crossed twice, Sienna Caruso added another, and Kalolaine Brown converted five tries from the tee.

Easts 2 continued to compete throughout the match, with Grainne Tummon and Gwen Towart scoring tries and Amelia Vaughan converting both attempts, but Manly 2 maintained control for most of the contest.

Through two rounds, Manly 2 have established themselves as one of the competition’s early benchmark teams.

Randwick Hold Off Two Blues 2 at Latham Park

Randwick secured a 27–15 victory over Two Blues 2 in the final match of the round at Latham Park.

Emily Byrne crossed twice for the home side, while Sophia Wilson and Bronti Westaway also added tries. Danique Nikkels contributed two conversions and a penalty goal, helping Randwick build enough separation during the second half.

Two Blues 2 remained within reach for much of the contest through tries to ʻAta Cook, Jennifer Kaikaivonu, and Avena Grace Racoma-Ngata, but Randwick’s composure in key moments allowed them to close out the match.

The result keeps Randwick unbeaten after two rounds and firmly positioned among the competition leaders.

Looking Ahead

After two rounds, Manly 2, West Harbour, Randwick, and Campbelltown remain unbeaten and currently form the leading group on the Div 2 Cup ladder.

Round Three is expected to provide a stronger indication of the competition hierarchy, particularly with fixtures such as West Harbour against Campbelltown and Manly 2 against Randwick bringing several undefeated sides together.

Other teams, including Gordon 2, Norths Sirens, and Two Blues 2, will look to build consistency and improve their ladder position as the season continues.
