MATCH PREVIEW: Chikarovski Cup Round 8 & Div 2 Cup Round 6

Sydney Women’s Rugby Union is back this Saturday 13 June, with Chikarovski Cup Round 8 and Div 2 Cup Round 6 both on the card. With the season entering its final stretch, ladder positions are starting to matter a great deal.

Chikarovski Cup – Round 8 Preview

Two Blues lead the Chikarovski Cup ladder on 25 points after five wins from seven rounds. Wildfires sit second on 23 points, also with five wins from seven. Manly are third on 21 points with two games in hand — still well in the hunt for top spot. Sydney Uni are level with Manly on 21 points from seven rounds and remain firmly in the finals picture off the back of strong recent form. Souths are fifth on 16, Warringah sixth on 14, Gordon seventh on 12, and Easts remain winless through seven rounds on 2 points.

Three rounds remain in the Chikarovski Cup, and the top four is far from settled. Every game this Saturday has ladder consequences.

Manly v Sydney Uni — Manly Oval | Sat 13 June, 9:10 AM

One of the most significant fixtures of the Chikarovski Cup season. Manly sit third on 21 points with two games in hand, while Sydney Uni are fourth, also on 21, from seven rounds. A win here for either side firms up their finals position and puts pressure on the teams above them. Manly at home at Manly Oval is a genuine advantage — they’ve been one of the competition’s most clinical sides, scoring 156 points from five games. Sydney Uni come in off back-to-back wins over Easts (36–7) and Gordon (32–5) and are in the form of their season. This one is the game of the round.

Warringah v Two Blues — Eric Tweedale Stadium | Sat 13 June, 11:50 AM

Two Blues are the form team in the competition, sitting on top of the Chikarovski Cup ladder after their 26–7 win over Wildfires in Round 7. Warringah have won three from seven and are fading from the finals race — they need a result here to stay relevant. Away from home against the competition leader makes this a very difficult task, but Warringah will be motivated. Two Blues will be looking to hold their position at the top.

Wildfires v Gordon — Newcastle Uni | Sat 13 June, 1:30 PM

Wildfires drop into Round 8 looking to bounce back after their heavy loss to Two Blues in Round 7. Gordon have won two from six and have been inconsistent through the season. Wildfires at home in Newcastle have been hard to beat — this is a fixture they will expect to win, and a result here keeps them in genuine top-two contention heading into the final rounds of the Chikarovski Cup.

Easts v Souths — Woollahra Oval | Sat 13 June, 6:10 PM

Easts are yet to win a game this season and host Souths, who have won three from six and are holding fifth on the ladder. Souths will be strong favourites and will be looking to add to their points tally in the final stretch. Easts will be seeking their first competition win before the season closes out.

Div 2 Cup – Round 6

Randwick lead the Div 2 Cup ladder on 21 points from five rounds — four wins from five. Wildfires 2 have moved to second on 19 points, also with four wins from five, after their 28–12 win over Two Blues 2 in Round 5. Campbelltown remain third on 14 points, unbeaten through three completed fixtures with two games in hand. Two Blues 2 are fourth on 14 points from five rounds. West Harbour sit fifth on 12, Norths Sirens sixth on 10, and Manly 2 seventh on 6. Gordon 2, Chifley Chiefs, and Easts 2 are still searching for their first wins at the foot of the table.

The top of the Div 2 Cup is tighter than it looks — Campbelltown’s games in hand mean they could yet move to the top if results go their way. Round 6 will bring more clarity.

Easts 2 v Campbelltown — Woollahra Oval | Sat 13 June, 9:00 AM

Campbelltown are unbeaten through three rounds and face Easts 2, who are yet to score a competition point. Campbelltown have been the most dominant side in the Div 2 Cup by points differential — conceding just 10 points all season — and will be strong favourites here. A win keeps them unbeaten and in third on the ladder with games in hand over Randwick and Wildfires 2.

Manly 2 v Chifley Chiefs — Manly Oval | Sat 13 June, 9:00 AM

Two sides at the bottom of the Div 2 Cup looking to end a lean run. Manly 2 have one win from four; Chifley Chiefs have lost all three of their completed fixtures. Manly 2 at home will be the likely favourite, but Chifley Chiefs will be determined to get their season moving before too many rounds pass them by.

West Harbour v Gordon 2 — Concord Oval | Sat 13 June, 9:00 AM

West Harbour sit fifth on 12 points and need a win to stay in contention with the top four. Gordon 2 have one draw and two losses from three rounds and are yet to win. West Harbour have the scoring power — 129 points for the season — and should be too strong at home. A comfortable win here lifts West Harbour back into the conversation around the top four.

Wildfires 2 v Randwick — Newcastle Uni | Sat 13 June, 12:20 PM

The standout fixture of the Div 2 Cup round. First versus second. Wildfires 2 host Randwick in Newcastle in a match that has direct implications for who leads the Div 2 Cup ladder heading into the final rounds. Wildfires 2 are in strong form after wins over Norths Sirens, West Harbour, and Two Blues 2 in their last three. Randwick have been the most consistent side across the full season — four wins from five — and arrive having beaten West Harbour 22–20 in Round 5. The winner of this one will hold a significant ladder advantage with the final rounds approaching.

Two Blues 2 v Norths Sirens — Granville Oval No 1 | Sat 13 June, 1:25 PM

Two Blues 2 look to respond after their first loss in three rounds — a 12–28 defeat to Wildfires 2 in Round 5. Norths Sirens have been competitive throughout the season, winning two from four, and won’t be far off their best here. A Two Blues 2 win keeps them in the top four and in the Div 2 Cup title race.
