Chikarovski Cup — Round 9 Results
Wildfires and Two Blues are level at the top of the Chikarovski Cup ladder on 30 points each after nine rounds — both with six wins, but Wildfires hold a draw that Two Blues don’t. Sydney Uni are third on 26 points after a heavy home loss to Two Blues. Warringah have moved to fourth on 24 points after a notable win over Manly. Manly drop to fifth on 23 points with their postponed Round 7 fixture against Gordon still to be played at Keirle Park on 23 June. Souths are sixth on 23 points, Gordon seventh on 17, and Easts remain without a win through nine rounds, picking up 4 points from bonus points alone.
Sydney Uni 5 v 31 Two Blues | Sydney University Football Ground
Two Blues were dominant at Sydney University Football Ground, winning 31–5 in a result that moves them level with Wildfires at the top of the Chikarovski Cup. Sydney Uni had been in strong form coming in but had no answer for Two Blues on the day. The result sets up a genuine title decider in Round 10.
Warringah 29 v 12 Manly | Pittwater Rugby Park No. 2
Warringah produced another significant result, beating Manly 29–12 at Pittwater Rugby Park. It’s their second win over a top-four side in three rounds, following their 20–7 defeat of Two Blues in Round 8, and moves them to fourth on the Chikarovski Cup ladder on 24 points. Manly drop to fifth and will need a strong result in their outstanding Round 7 fixture to stay in finals contention.
Wildfires 15 v 15 Souths | Newcastle Sports Ground 2
A 15–15 draw at Newcastle Sports Ground 2, a result that Wildfires will feel they left points on the field. Souths held firm throughout and earn a competition point that keeps them in the top half of the table. The draw means Wildfires and Two Blues go into Round 10 locked together on 30 points, separated only by points differential.
Gordon 26 v 22 Easts | Woollahra Oval
Gordon won 26–22 at Woollahra Oval in a competitive finish. Three wins from eight for Gordon, who move to seventh on the Chikarovski Cup ladder on 17 points. Easts scored 22 points, their highest tally of the season, but remain without a win through nine rounds.
